Origin & Background
A vengeful spirit of a maiden who died without marrying, also known as 'Wangsin' or 'Maiden Ghost'.
The Legend
Believed to have died with the regret of not getting married, she is thought to take revenge on other unmarried maidens out of jealousy. It is said that she appears through a straw doll (Jeung) made of straw. There was a folk custom of performing a soul marriage (spiritual wedding) with the male vengeful spirit, Mongdal Ghost, to alleviate her grievances.
