The Legend

Aghasura is an asura mentioned in Hindu scriptures, particularly the 'Bhagavata Purana'. He is one of the generals of Kamsa and the brother of the demon Putana and Bakasura. Aghasura is referred to as one of the tribes allied with Kamsa. The story of Aghasura being killed by Krishna is narrated by the sage Shuka to King Parikshit.

Kamsa threatened Krishna's life several times but failed each time. Later, he sent Aghasura to kill Krishna, and Aghasura willingly attempted this despite knowing that his brothers had been killed by Krishna. He transformed into the shape of a snake 8 miles long and disguised his mouth as a mountain. All the shepherds mistook it for a cave and entered the demon's mouth, and the snake closed its mouth, causing the victims to suffocate.

When Krishna arrived, he entered the snake's body and expanded his own body greatly. Aghasura also tried to expand his body, but as Krishna expanded faster, he began to suffocate, and his eyes bulged out. However, Aghasura's life force could not escape through any exit, and ultimately, a hole was pierced above Aghasura's head, leading to his demise at the hands of Krishna.
