The Legend

Rakshasa is generally depicted as a malevolent being, prominently featured in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Indonesian folk Islam. They inhabit the earth but possess supernatural powers, which they primarily use to disrupt Vedic rituals or commit evil acts such as devouring humans. The term Rakshasa is also used to describe beings that seek power similar to that of Asuras, and they are often portrayed as opposing benevolent Devas. The female form of Rakshasa is known as Rakshasi.
