The Legend

Leyak is a mythical being that appears in Balinese folklore, described as a flying head with internal organs attached. It is said that Leyak seeks out pregnant women to suck the blood of their babies or to eat newborns. In legend, Leyak is composed of three beings: two females and one male.

In Popular Culture

The Balinese sometimes associate certain diseases or deaths with Leyak. A traditional Balinese healer, called balian, seeks to find the cause of death caused by magic through sessions. During the session, the spirit of the deceased may directly or indirectly point out the attacker, and it is advised not to encourage revenge from the victim's relatives or family, but to leave all actions to the spirit.
