The Legend

Samsin Halmeoni (Samsin Halmi, Samsunghalmang) is known in Korean mythology as the goddess of childbirth and fate. 'Sam' means 'pregnancy' in Korean, 'sin' refers to a deity (goddess), and 'halmeoni' is a title that represents a revered ancestral goddess, often depicted as a wise old woman. Samsin Halmeoni is regarded as the goddess of childbirth in Korean shamanism and is also recognized as the goddess of pregnancy when referred to by the title 'Samsin.' The phonetic value of 'sam' corresponds to the number three (三), which leads to interpretations of Samsin Halmeoni as a goddess associated with the number three. A mountain in Korea is named Samsinbong after Samsin Halmeoni.

In the 2010 SBS drama 'My Girlfriend is a Gumiho,' Kim Ji-young made a cameo appearance, and in the 2012 KBS2 drama 'Oh Halmeoni,' Kim Soo-mi also appeared as a cameo. In the 2016-2017 tvN drama 'Goblin,' Lee El portrayed her, while in the 2020 JTBC drama 'Mystic Pop-up Bar,' Oh Young-sil appeared as her, and in the 2021 SBS drama 'Hong Cheon-ki,' Moon Sook played the role.
