Origin & Background

The Naewatdang Musindo is a collection of 10 portraits of village guardian deities that were hung in the Naewatdang Shrine located in Jeju Island, South Korea. It is currently designated as an important cultural heritage of Korea and is preserved at Jeju National University. This shrine was destroyed in the mid-19th century, and these works may be the oldest known Musindo in Korea to date.
