몽달귀신
Description
몽달귀신은 결혼하지 못하고 죽은 총각의 귀신으로, 한국 전통 귀신 중 하나이다. 이 귀신은 혼인을 하지 못한 채 죽어 이승에 한을 품고 떠도는 원귀의 일종으로, 여성 원귀인 처녀귀신과 대응되는 남성 짝으로 여겨진다. 전통적으로 몽달귀신과 처녀귀신을 혼인시키는 사혼이라는 영혼결혼식을 통해 한을 풀어준다는 민속이 전해진다. 이는 결혼과 자손을 중시하는 유교적 관념이 반영된 존재이다.

The Mongdal Ghost is the spirit of a young man who died without getting married, and is one of the traditional ghosts of Korea.
The Legend
It is a type of vengeful spirit that died without marrying and wanders the living world with resentment. It is considered the male counterpart to the female vengeful spirit, the Virgin Ghost. There is a folklore that alleviates their resentment through a death marriage (死婚), or a spirit wedding, between the Mongdal Ghost and the Virgin Ghost.
