지리산성모

지리산성모(智異山聖母) 또는 마야고는 대한민국 경상남도 산청군 천왕사에 모셔져 있는 지리산의 성모이다. 무속 신화에서 고려의 태조 왕건의 어머니인 위숙왕후와 동일시되며, 성모에게 빌어 비를 그치게 했다는 이야기가 전해진다.

Mayago (Mayago) is a goddess in Korean mythology, specifically the goddess of Jirisan, who is responsible for taking care of certain mountains. Mayago is one of the main deities that shamans or priests pray to, as they seek good fortune and harvests by offering prayers to her. Sometimes these priests reside in the mountains, and the height of the mountain symbolizes closeness to the heavens and the gods. According to legend, it is said that when prayers are offered to Mayago, the rain will cease. She is also identified with Wangryun, the mother of Goryeo's founder, Taejo.
