Origin & Background

Kim Al-ji is said to be the founder of the Silla Kim dynasty, born during the reign of King Talhae. His birth year is recorded as 65, and he played the role of the progenitor of the Kim clan.

The Legend

As the founder of Silla, the birth myth of Kim Al-ji is recorded in the Samguk Sagi and Samguk Yusa. In 65, it is said that King Talhae discovered a small golden box in Silla, and from it, a beautiful baby boy named Kim Al-ji was born. This event symbolically represents the succession of the throne in Silla and the emergence of the Kim clan, and Kim Al-ji was later appointed as the crown prince.

Variants

There are slight differences in the genealogies of Kim Al-ji's descendants in the Samguk Sagi and Samguk Yusa, but the basic lineage is the same. In the Samguk Sagi, the lineage goes Al-ji → Se-han → A-do → Su-ryu → Uk-bo → Gu-do → Mi-chu, while in the Samguk Yusa, it is recorded as Al-ji → Yeol-han → A-do → Su-ryu → Uk-bu → Gu-do → Mi-chu.
