Jeokbyeokga is one of the five stories that have survived in the Korean pansori tradition, along with Simcheongga, Heungbuga, Chunhyangga, and Sugungga. This story is a reconstruction of the historical Chinese legend of the Battle of Red Cliffs (Jeokbyeokdaejeon). Jeokbyeokga is a heroic tale, characterized by grand and noble expressions and intense emotions. Therefore, it is rare for female singers to perform it. Jeokbyeokga contains many scenes depicting conflicts among kings, feudal lords, and commanders, requiring the singer to have the ability to deliver a majestic vocal performance. A singer with a powerful voice is suitable for Jeokbyeokga. Despite its brevity, Jeokbyeokga is considered one of the most difficult pansori pieces.
