Origin & Background
The origin of Guseoknori is uncertain. Lucia Peters, author of 'The Ghost In My Machine', mentioned that this game 'may have originated in Korea'. However, according to Japanese writer Hiroji Matsuyama, this game is based on a Japanese story where one of five climbers dies on a snow-covered mountain before a blizzard hits. The remaining four moved his body to a cabin without heating, and there, the four played a game to summon the spirit of the deceased until the rescue team arrived. Some media in China and Taiwan also claim that this game originated in Japan.
