In Texas folklore, the Lake Worth Monster is a legendary creature said to inhabit Lake Worth near the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge.

The Legend

This creature is often described as a 'half-man, half-goat' and is said to have scales and long claws on its fingers. In July 1969, reports emerged from local residents claiming to have witnessed a 'hairy, scaly half-man, half-goat,' leading to a belief that a mysterious creature lived in Lake Worth. Newspapers reported incidents such as a man landing on a car after jumping from a tree and another incident where a group of people had tires thrown at them by the creature.

In Popular Culture

Since 2009, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Lake Worth Monster sightings, the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge has held an annual Lake Worth Monster Bash every October. In 2019, a four-part audio series about the Lake Worth Monster legend was released on the H2OMG podcast by the Fort Worth Water Department.
