The Legend

Eungnyong (응룡) is known in ancient Chinese mythology as a winged dragon and the god of rain. The name of this legendary creature is a combination of 'Eung (응)' meaning 'to respond' and 'nyong (룡)' meaning 'dragon'. Therefore, Eungnyong is interpreted as 'the responding dragon'. Eungnyong frequently appears in legends associated with the emperor and his descendant, King You (유왕). It is said that Eungnyong helped King You control a great flood.

Eungnyong also appears in modern popular culture. For example, in the game 'Wolong Fallen Dynasty', Eungnyong is depicted as a legendary divine beast alongside Zhuge Liang (제갈량), the genius strategist of the Shu Han (촉한).
