The Legend

In Yoruba religion, Ajogun are considered malevolent spiritual forces or deities that regularly interfere in human life. Ajogun are seen as the exact opposite of the benevolent Orisha, and it is believed that they constantly battle against them and maintain cosmic balance through warfare with humanity. There are a total of 200 Ajogun, but 8 of their spirits lead them, with Iku, the spirit of death, being the chief. Iku is sometimes depicted in Yoruba folklore as a young warrior or a weary elder, wielding a heavy club that can kill a victim merely by touching them. Additionally, there are stories of humans or even gods fleeing from him or hiding, hoping that he will forgive them.
