The Legend
Nekker is a humanoid water spirit that appears in German mythology and folklore, often described as a being with the ability to shapeshift. They are also known in German folklore as 'Nix' or 'Nixe' and are best known in Scandinavian folklore. Nekkers are generally depicted as male and lure women and children to lakes or streams by playing enchanting music, or even pulling them directly into the water. However, not all nekker are malevolent beings, and in some stories, they are described as harmless. It is often said that nekker become melancholic without free and regular contact with the source of water.
